Pipedrive started as a sales software to improve the overall deal flow with the help of pipelines and deal stages. But it comes with an easy to use and intuitive contact database as well.
I recommend Pipedrive for all businesses who have a multi-step sales funnel and often add new contacts as part of adding a new business opportunity to their system.
Pipedrive has several price tears with the lowest starting at US$12.50 when paid annually.
If you are an e-commerce store you should check out Drip because with inbuilt automatons and list segementation.
It also integrates easily with ecommece platforms such as Shopify and WooCommerce.
Drip pricing depends on the number of contacts in your account. For example for 500 contacts Drip charges US$19 per month, 2000 contact (US$29) and 5000 (US$89). All plans include unlimited email campaigns.
HubSpot is still the number one choice for many small businesses to get started. It has helpful marketing and automation features and nicely integrates with e.g. WordPress and many email marketing tools.
Another plus is that HubSpot lets you basically store unlimited customer data.
While basic features are free, you quickly would need to upgrade to one of the paid plans (US50 and Us$113 respectively) to use all the marketing features which can be drawback for businesses just starting out.
I have yet to use Salesmate but I got a recommendation from a friend and client for it, hence I am listing it here.

Salesmate is a roust CRM for small and medium sized business with a sales pipeline and a main focus on automation features.
The pricing is similar to Pipedrive and starts at US$ 12 per month per user when paid annually.
